The Right Glue Gun for the Job
The easiest way to melt Sealing Wax is with a Low-Temperature Glue Gun. You can use any of our three glue guns to dispense your favourite colour Flexible Sealing Wax Sticks to create awesome Wax Seals... but not all guns are created equal.
We've laid out the features of each hot glue gun for you so you can pick the right tool for the job. There are a few things each gun has in common:
- Low-temperature
- Takes 12mm or 11mm sticks (that's about 1/2 inch)
- The plug is compatible with power outlets in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Argentina
Check out the features unique to each gun below. As a general rule of thumb, the higher the prices the better the quality, temperature and wax consistency. You'll also get more features and less wax wastage on higher priced arsenal.
Jasart
The Jasart Glue Gun does a great job. It's affordable, lightweight and low-temperature but isn't as feature-filled as its Surebonder counterparts.
- 15 watts, so it'll take a little while to heat up (10+ minutes)
- Low-temperature but you'll need to unplug it from time-to-time to avoid overheating or when your wax is too hot/runny
- Creates a fair bit of wastage, you will get drips so place something underneath (try a piece of paper or a small cup)
- Use the built-in stand and avoid placing it on its side or tilting it backwards
- Limited life span but affordable at only A$26.95
Surebonder PLUS
The PLUS is a few steps up from the Jasart. If you can find the $5 extra dollars in your budget, it's well worth the investment for better wax consistency and more features.
- 40 watts, heats up in about 5+ minutes
- Low-temperature, but has a high-temperature setting if you need it
- Maintains great wax consistency
- No need to unplug to prevent over heating
- Built-in safety fuse
- Minimal wastage - keep more wax for making seals, less drips!
- Side fins allow you to sit the gun on its side
- Removable foot stand
- Sturdy and easy-to-use, A$32.95
Surebonder ULTRA
This our personal fave, the gun we use in our studio. We've been using our first and current ULTRA for almost a year and it's still going strong with daily use.
- 60 watts, heats up fast in less than 5 minutes
- Low-temperature and, like the PLUS, has a high-temperature setting
- Maintains great wax consistency with minimal wastage/drips
- No need to unplug to prevent over heating
- Built-in safety fuse
- Automatically shuts off after 30 minutes of non-use - our fave feature!
- Has a very handy power indicator light
- Removable wire stand and side fins for laying it on it's side
- Exceptionally well built with ergonomic handle and rubber grip
